At Maple Ridge Eye Care, our experienced and professional team of Maple Ridge optometrists is here to serve you with the highest standard of care. From routine eye and vision exams to treatment for serious eye conditions, we're here to help. One of the most common questions we receive from patients is "how do I properly clean my eyeglasses?" Fortunately, we've got some tips to assist you.
To remove debris and dust from your eyeglass lenses, we recommend first rinsing them gently with warm tap water; be sure not to use hot water, as this could damage the lenses. Apply a small amount of moisturizer-free dish soap onto the lenses and rub carefully with your fingers. This procedure should be followed not just on the lenses, but on the frames themselves as well. When drying your glasses, always use a lint-free cloth to protect against scratches and other damage.
There are microfiber clothes and sprays you can purchase that are specifically designed for use on eyeglasses and eyeglass lenses. These are ideal for when you're on-the-go and don't have access to soap, water, and a soft towel. However, it's always best to use the method described above whenever possible.
And of course, take steps to protect your glasses from needing to be cleaned in the first place. This includes making sure your glasses are always kept in a case when they're not in use! Never leave your glasses out on the counter or any other surface where they could accidentally be knocked off and broken or damaged. This may mean purchasing a couple of extra cases to keep in your car, at work, or elsewhere.
