At Maple Ridge Eye Care, our optometrist offers specialized contact lens fitting appointments to those considering the switch from traditional corrective lenses to contact lenses. We highly recommend these appointments for anybody wanting to transition to contact lenses because every patient's eye care needs are unique, and there is simply no "one-size-fits-all" solution when it comes to contacts. With a contact lens fitting appointment in our office, you can receive a personalized recommendation regarding which type of contact lenses are best for your needs and lifestyle, resulting in a smoother transition to wearing contact lenses.
During your contact lens fitting, our optometrist will begin with some routine eye and vision testing. From there, our eye doctor will perform some screenings to check for eye and vision problems that could affect your ability to wear contact lenses. For example, patients with astigmatism may have a hard time wearing traditional contacts due to the abnormal curvature of the eye. They may need to be prescribed a specialty lens that is made to fit the curvature of their eye exactly. Our optometrist can use a tool called a keratometer to take the measurements necessary.
If you do have an eye condition that will make wearing contact lenses difficult, our eye care team can recommend specialty lenses to suit your needs.
Our eye care team will also assist you in fitting your new contact lenses, which will involve you trying them on in our office to ensure a proper fit. We'll ensure that you're properly educated on how to care for/clean your contact lenses, as well as how to insert and remove them safely.
