Correcting Colour Blindness with EnChroma Lenses from Maple Ridge Eye Care

Red-green colour blindness affects about 1/12th of the male population and 1/200th of the female population in the world. Fortunately for people with this vision anomaly, EnChroma lens technology, offered by our Maple Ridge optometrists, can help with red-green colour blindness.

What is Colour Blindness?

Colour blindness essentially falls into three categories: monochromacy, protanomaly, and deuteranomaly. Protanomaly and deuteranomaly are the conditions that are usually referred to as red-green colour blindness. In these people, the cones in the eyes that distinguish reds and greens have much more overlap than they do in most people. This causes reds and greens to look very much the same and have a muddy-brown appearance.

How do EnChroma Lenses Work?

EnChroma lenses block certain wavelengths of light from reaching your eyes using a patented multi-notch technology. This serves to separate out the wavelengths that usually overlap for people with protanomaly or deuteranomaly. EnChroma lenses allow for greater colour-vision in 80% of patients with red-green colour blindness.

The EnChroma lens technology can be adapted into both prescription and non-prescription lenses.

Where can I Get EnChroma Lenses?

Maple Ridge Eye Care is proud to carry EnChroma lens technology. We are the first location in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver to offer this technology so that our patients can experience better colour vision. We can adapt this technology into your current frames with your current prescription, we can create lenses for you without a prescription or you can purchase the EnChroma sunglasses from us without any prescription at all.

Our optometrists will evaluate your eyes to determine if you have protanomaly or deuteranomaly, and if you have a need for vision correction. We can then determine if you are among the 80% of people with red-green colour blindness for whom EnChroma lens technology works.
