Additional Myopia Information

Tailored to your child’s individual needs

At Maple Ridge Eye Care our myopia management program has been created with you and your child in mind. We want to ensure that the treatment is comfortable, manageable, and most importantly effective. To do this, it is imperative to accurately identify, measure, and monitor the risk factors and ocular parameters which cause the progression of myopia. This process begins at your child’s initial myopia management consultation.

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT CONSULT – INITIAL ASSESSMENT – $175 fee*

*Fee will be deducted from Year One fee upon enrollment in the Myopia Management Program

Assessment includes:
• Measurements of axial length and corneal topography taken with the Topcon MYAH instrument
• Measurements of your child’s corneal curvature with the Tomey keratometer (ARK) instrument, which will then estimate refractive power
• A cycloplegic refraction will be done. This is objective testing using cycloplegic eye drops to temporarily relax the focusing muscles of the eye. It is the most accurate way to measure prescription without accommodative (focusing) interference
• Visual acuity
• Eye muscle balance

The consultation will conclude with counselling and recommendations from your optometrist based on your child’s results and will provide you with the optimal treatment plan for the management of their myopia.**

These tests are necessary to formulate or modify a myopia management treatment plan. In our program, these tests are performed every 6 months. Due to the extra testing and instillation of eye drops, these will be longer visits for your child than you may be used to (30-60 minutes).

Our myopia management program includes the above testing, any soft contact lens training/assessment as well as treatment adaptation and follow-up appointments in one fee.

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT PROGRAM – YEAR 1- $599 fee (the $175 initial consultation cost will be deducted from this fee)

– 3 comprehensive assessments (initial testing, then at 6 and 12 months) including all follow ups

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT PROGRAM – YEAR 2 (& ONWARD) – $499 FEE

– 2 comprehensive assessments (at 6 and 12 months) including all follow ups

Please note: fees above are for services and testing only and do NOT include any materials (glasses, lenses, contact lenses)

**If further counselling is needed, your optometrist will arrange a follow up Telehealth appointment
